Variants is a two-part portrait series that arose out of research into the visual representation of psychiatric patients over time. Referencing both Victorian asylum photography and contemporary psychiatric drug advertisements, the 24 participants have at some point in their lives been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder and been prescribed medication for that disorder. Some continue to take medication today, others do not. Some agree with their diagnoses, and others do not.
